Ugandan musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, took to social media to share a touching Valentine’s Day message for his wife, Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi, affectionately known as Barbie
Bobi Wine expressed his deep love for Barbie, writing,
“You take my breath away Barbie Kyagulanyi, I fall in love with you every day. Happy Valentine’s Day love 💕.
Bobi Wine and Barbie Kyagulanyi’s love story began over two decades ago, in November 2000, at Uganda’s National Theatre during a stage play titled Lady Will You Marry Me~?. At the time, Bobi was an up-and-coming musician from the Kamwokya slums, while Barbie was a student at Bweranyangi Girls’ Senior Secondary School.

Despite their different backgrounds, their connection grew from friendship to love, overcoming initial challenges. Barbie has shared in past interviews that she was initially hesitant about Bobi’s “worldly” persona, but his authenticity and dedication won her over. The couple lived together for 10 years before tying the knot on August 27, 2011, in a widely celebrated wedding at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala, attended by royalty and prominent figures.
Bobi’s Valentine’s Day message this year is a continuation of the public expressions of love that have defined their relationship. Over the years, he has consistently celebrated Barbie on special occasions, from anniversaries to birthdays, often highlighting her role as his best friend and confidante. In 2020, during their ninth wedding anniversary, Bobi shared a poignant memory from their wedding, recalling his father’s advice to honor Barbie as a covenant between their families.
In past Valentine’s Day posts, she has described Bobi as her “favorite fragrance” and “resting place,” showcasing the depth of their emotional connection. Their mutual admiration has been a constant, even amidst the challenges of political activism and public scrutiny.
