Kampala, Uganda – The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially nominated musician Mukiibi Sadat, popularly known by his stage name Kalifah Aganaga, as their candidate for the upcoming Kawempe North Member of Parliament (MP) by-election.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Wednesday.
Kalifah Aganaga, who has transitioned from a celebrated music career to the political arena, pledged to bring fresh energy and transformative leadership to the people of Kawempe North.
His campaign slogan, “Londa Kalifah Wetukire”, emphasizes his commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment.
Aganaga will face stiff competition from notable candidates, including:
- Faridah Nambi, representing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), who is the daughter of NRM’s National Vice Chairman, Hajj Moses Kigongo.
- Hajjat Hanifah Karadi, running as an NRM-leaning independent candidate.
- Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, a prominent lawyer representing the National Unity Platform (NUP).
The Kawempe North MP by-election is scheduled for March 13, 2025, following the unfortunate passing of the area MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, who died on January 9, 2025
Ssegirinya was a vocal opposition figure, known for his advocacy on health and social justice issues.
