Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta Graces Makerere University Guild Summit

On Thursday, April 24th, 2025, former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, honored Makerere University with his presence at the prestigious Annual Guild Summit. His attendance highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of leaders across East Africa.
During his keynote address, Kenyatta urged young leaders to embrace integrity and take an active role in democratic processes.
“It is your civic duty to shape the governments that reflect your needs and ambitions,” he said. He emphasized that true leadership requires not only vision but also accountability and action.

Makerere University’s Guild President, Ssentamu Churchill James, echoed similar sentiments in his passionate speech. “Leadership isn’t defined by the titles we carry, but by the impact we make,” he reminded attendees. His words resonated deeply with the student leaders present.
Ssentamu further called upon fellow guild presidents and youth representatives to see the summit not as a final destination, but as the spark of a larger movement. “Let this not be the end of a conversation, but the beginning of a mission. Let us return to our institutions empowered—to serve, to lead, and to advocate for meaningful change,” he declared.

He also emphasized the power of unity across borders, encouraging collaboration and mutual respect among East African nations. “The future of our region won’t be built by a single country, but through the collective strength and unity of many.”
The summit served as a powerful reminder that leadership grounded in integrity and unity can shape a brighter future for East Africa.
