This Wednesday, we are excited to honor Ms. Nambassa Shamim as our Woman Crush Wednesday (WCW). Nambassa made a significant mark in the history of Makerere University as the 87th Guild President, leading the student body during the 2021/2022 academic year.
In the highly contested guild elections on November 12, 2021, Nambassa emerged as the winner, securing 5,610 votes, which made up 54.16% of the total votes cast. Her closest rival, Obeid Yahayaa Kamulegeya from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), garnered 1,548 votes.
A third-year student in Bachelor of Pharmacy, Nambassa's leadership was defined by her focus on enhancing the welfare of students. Among her notable initiatives was a campaign aimed at tackling teenage pregnancies in Northern Uganda, where she stressed the importance of education and community-based solutions.

Beyond her role as Guild President, Nambassa's leadership exemplified the power of female empowerment in student governance, breaking barriers and setting a precedent for future generations. Her journey continues to inspire others, showing that dedication to student advocacy and academic excellence can leave a lasting impact on a community.
