Wolves Shock Manchester United at Old Trafford to Complete Historic Double

Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Easter Sunday, completing their first Premier League double over the Red Devils since the 1979–80 season. Pablo Sarabia’s brilliant free-kick in the 77th minute was the difference in a match short on clear chances but high on tension.
Under manager Vitor Pereira, Wolves showed composure and tactical discipline, securing their Premier League survival with five games to spare. The visitors limited United to just one shot on target, with Dan Bentley stepping up confidently in goal in the absence of José Sá.
United, under Ruben Amorim, fielded a youthful side following their Europa League clash with Lyon. Debutant Tyler Fredricson and teenager Harry Amass impressed, but the team failed to make a breakthrough. The defeat was United’s eighth at home this season—marking their worst Old Trafford record since 1962–63—and equaled their all-time highest number of league losses in a single campaign.

Despite slightly edging possession, United struggled to break down a compact Wolves side. Their best chance came late when Rasmus Højlund narrowly missed from Alejandro Garnacho’s cross, and Bruno Fernandes saw his free-kick pushed over in stoppage time.
Sarabia’s curling effort, described as a “moment of magic,” secured Wolves their fifth straight league win, lifting them to 38 points—level with Manchester United in 14th place. It’s a remarkable turnaround for a team that sat 17th when Pereira took over in December.
For United, who are now guaranteed their lowest-ever Premier League points tally, the frustration continues. Amorim has now suffered 10 defeats in his first 21 league matches, with growing concerns about consistency and squad depth.
