In a shocking incident reported on February 18, 2025, in Kamuli District, Uganda, a woman identified as Kevin Nabirye allegedly severed her husband’s genitals in a violent domestic dispute.
The victim, 37-year-old Mathias Bwamiki, was attacked in their home in Buguwa village, Kawaga parish, Balawoli sub-county, around 11:00 p.m. This incident marks another disturbing case of domestic violence in the region, where similar acts have been reported in recent months.
According to Bwamiki, he was asleep when he suddenly awoke to excruciating pain in his genital area. He discovered that his wife had attacked him, allegedly using a sharp object to mutilate him.
In the aftermath, Nabirye reportedly accused her husband of comparing her unfavorably to other women on TikTok, a popular social media platform, which may have triggered her rage. Bwamiki managed to defend himself and raise an alarm, prompting his brother, Godfrey Mukubo, to rush to his aid after receiving a distress call.
Busoga North police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed that Nabirye was arrested and is facing charges of attempted murder.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple had been experiencing tensions, with the TikTok comparison serving as a possible tipping point.
Bwamiki was immediately taken to a local medical facility, though details about his condition remain limited at this time.
This incident follows a pattern of similar cases in Kamuli. In June 2024, Susan Namuganza allegedly cut off her husband Moses Kawubanya’s genitals and fled with an unspecified amount of cash, leaving him in critical condition. Namuganza was later apprehended after a three-week manhunt.
Local leaders have noted an alarming rise in such violent acts, often linked to marital disputes, jealousy, or infidelity allegations.
The recurring nature of these extreme acts of violence has sparked concern among community leaders and residents. Kamuli Resident District Commissioner Rose Birungi has publicly condemned domestic violence, urging couples to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts and emphasizing the devastating impact on families, especially children. The police continue to investigate the latest case, as the community grapples with the underlying issues driving such brutal confrontations.
