Prominent Ugandan journalist Zambali Bulasio Mukasa has officially confirmed his suspension from NBS TV, a leading media outlet under Next Media.
The announcement came late Thursday evening, March 06, 2025, via an audio that leaked on social media platforms, where he also hinted at his next steps amid growing political ambitions.
A well-known news anchor and host of the popular Luganda bulletin Amasengejje and the political show Barometer, was reportedly suspended following his appearance at a political rally in Kawempe.
At the event, he publicly praised the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader, Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine in front of a large crowd.
This move drew scrutiny from Next Media management who cited the company’s policy against political involvement by its employees as the reason for his suspension. Sources indicate that Mukasa’s partisan remarks led to his immediate removal from Barometer, with Kungu Al-Mahadi Adam stepping in as his replacement.
The suspension marks a pivotal moment for Mukasa, who has openly expressed interest in contesting for the Member of Parliament seat in Nansana Municipality under the NUP banner in the 2026 general elections. While addressing his future, he revealed his next plan of action:
“This is not the end but a new beginning. I will now focus fully on engaging with the people of Nansana and building a platform to serve them. My journey in public service is just starting.”

Mukasa’s transition from journalism to politics follows a growing trend among Ugandan creatives and media personalities entering the political arena. His case echoes that of Victoria Bagaaya, another NBS journalist suspended alongside him for similar reasons, highlighting the tension between professional roles and political aspirations in Uganda’s evolving media landscape.
As Mukasa prepares to dive into grassroots mobilization in Nansana, his supporters are already rallying behind him, with many anticipating a spirited campaign ahead of the 2026 elections.
Whether this marks the end of his media career or a temporary detour remains to be seen.
